- Work on/Reduce our Debt Significantly - we decided we're going to do whatever it takes to reduce our debt. I'm thisclose to selling my car (well, putting it up for sale). I won't replace it. Not right now anyway, I think I'll become a Flexcar girl. There are actually at least 6 different Flexcar parking spots within 2 blocks of our house. We have some other thoughts/ideas on this item as well, we're going to get serious about it in 2008.
- Travel but smarter and more budget conscious - we kicked ass in the travel department in 2007. We hit (in no order) Charleston, Romania, Pensacola, Italy, Costa Rica, Seattle, Cumberland Island, Tennessee, and Greensboro twice. If you look at that - we almost did basically a big trip a month. Although, in reality we cram packed several of those trips into the summer months - which made for quite a hectic summer. In 2008, we'll still plan a big trip or so, but we're going to work on more budget consious trips for the rest of the year - trips that are achieved by driving instead of flying, and involve camping and hiking instead of expensive hotels and shopping.
- Develop our Hobbies - You've all been part of my own little hobby development, photography. In 2008 I want to continue to develop that hobby. Baby wants to focus, as money allows, on his hobby - flying. Why and when exactly did we pick such expensive hobbies???
- Fitness - we're getting fit in 2008. Financially and Physically. Damn it.
- Communicate More/Better - We'll probably start seeing a marriage counselor to help us learn how to communicate with each other better. Looking back over 2007, we both felt that it was our first year that we felt any pressure. Probably, mostely, related to finances. A significant cut in pay for me plus the lack of travel related perks made our life and travel expenses grow exponentially. We fought about that and didn't communicate with each other as frequently or openly as we should. We're gonna fix that.
- Have More Sex - I mean really, why not? It's free, you know. Oh, and fun. :)
To create our list of goals, we brainstormed important/significant things that happened to us in 2007, then evaluated what was important to us as a couple. In 2007 - we were blessed with many great opportunities and experiences. We traveled a LOT. I got a new job and traveled less for work. Baby and I spent more time together and learned how to live together 24/7 instead of 2 days a week. We learned to share the TV. We survived the side effects of me quitting smoking - which lasted several months, not just a few weeks. They aren't all withdrawal related. We cooked more (ok ok - BABY COOKED MORE and I drank more, but whatevs). We saw Costa Rica and Italy (within the same month!). We made new friends - lots of new friends - this year. We reconciled with old friends. Friends married, moved, bought houses, or stayed as they were. We paid off a lot of debt at the beginning of the year - then built it, plus more, right back up again. We struggled with living on less money. We drank a lot of good wine. We made financial adjustments. I shopped a LOT less. I took up photography. We got bikes. We tried (and I failed at) boot camp. We camped. I blogged. We hung out with good friends - shared food, wine, stories and jokes. We whitewater rafted. Our careers changed. Baby's job changed a bit and they started something new and different at work that will really allow them to grow in 2008. I felt like I took a big step back at work, but did allow myself to grow personally. We spent time with family - cuz visited and we attended a newly annual family reunion on Baby's side of the family.
We are so lucky.
So, here goes. My new running list of things to do, places to see and people to visit. I don't plan to do all this in 2008, but we'll see what I can start crossing off the list and what else I can add to it. K? Remember, it's just a start, so if you think there is something I've left off my list - remind me or give me suggestions! :)

12 bits of love:
Very good lists! I am not one for resolutions myself, but I did make a "wants for Alli" list. Like your "To Do" list. Perhaps if I make the list sound more positive & make it sounds like things to look forward to, I'll be more apt to do them. ;)
I think it's awesome that the 2 of you are going to counseling (or will be). From what I understand, most couples wait to do that until it's too late and then it's no good. So, kudos to you both for recognizing that not everything can be solved alone or before it's utterly broken.
I can teach you how to do pedi's and mani's. I used to live with a manicurist. We used to have Bloody Mary Pedicure nights every other Friday's! Let me tell you how fun THAT is!
I'm working on my list. It'll be posted soon. Small, but soon.
Proud of you for looking forward in such a healthy way!!! Great list, and you *know* I'm going to help you meet at least a few of those goals...because it'll help me meet mine that match. ;)
YEAY YOU!
Um...how many continents did I see on that 'travel to' list? ;)
I think you're going to be one busy lady. Good for you two.
And I applaud you and Baby for the counseling idea!! Lovee and I did that for the same reason. To learn how to communicate more effectively. It worked. :)
Lalalalalalala about the sex shit!
You're such a sharing person....
excellent to do list! i suggest you contact chocolatte in decatur (corner of north decatur and clairmont) and ask about their rotating monthly amateur artist gig. it is a great place to get a start at showing your work and getting exposure...and you might conquer goal #13!
I think your list sounds great. Do you plan to give updates on a regular basis? At work, we have something called Development Action Plans. I've decided that this year, I'm going to have a Personal Development Action Plan which will be my list of resolutions. I'm going to check in on my blog once a month on my progress. I think that will help me to actually do some of these things.
Good luck!!
Happy Be-lated New Year! We were so lame..watched a movie and fell asleep...i guess i will blog it later..haha..you did inspire me to make a list though!
I also wish to have more sex in 2008.
Thanks all! I'll definitely check out Chocolatte in Decatur. And, Jen, watch out what you ask for, or I'll be knocking on your door. :)
MMH - I'll try to post on the blog quarterly, but I added this post under the About Me so I can update it at will. I just added 2 things right now.
Happy New Year! Great list and best wishes with your progress. CLM has finally updated up her blog - maybe signs of progress!
alli: I really recommend just keeping a running list. Works for me, but not sure what'll be best for you. I was really tempted to list some thing I'd done recently - just to have the satisfaction of crossing them off already. :) I'm a cheater like that.
jen: thanks! That's kind of our motivation. We want to do it before it gets to be too late. Since we don't/won't have kids - we're lacking one of those things that really binds couples together. you know? when you have kids you tend to go an extra mile to survive rough times. Couples without kids don't have that added motivation. You know? I would LOVE for you to teach me how to do a mani/pedi. Throw in a bloody mary and I'm totally there!
Maigh: thanks! Your support is totally invaluable and I'm so happy I have a new friend to work on some of these things with!
tt: now, we aren't doing this all in '08, remember that! :) Actually, I'm thinking about creating a separate travel to list, to keep running track of that. I always do this - start one and then abandon it when I realize I just wanna go everywhere. :)
kayron: thanks! That is an EXCELLENT idea! I will definitely check it out. :)
mmh: I already responded, but wanted to say thanks for wondering. :)
jgt: thanks! and I'm totally waiting for yours!!! hurry!!!
loud: you go girl! You should. Everyone should. Seriously.
DLM: Thank you!!!
add "visit New York City" to the list!!!!!!! :)
